Chapter 8: Encouraging and responding to questions

How to encourage questions

When we started asking our own questions, the kids became more comfortable asking theirs.

  • Let children know that they’re welcome to ask any question, now or in the future.
  • Emphasize that there are no bad questions, and that no topics are off limit.
  • Share a question of your own to gently encourage your child to ask theirs.

I’m wondering why someone who never smoked died of lung cancer?

  • Thank them for being brave enough to ask their questions.
