Supporting a grieving child
Supporting a grieving child
Chapter 2: Modelling grief
Introduction
I've been there
The instinct of many people is to hide their grief from the children. They fear it’s too difficult for them to witness an adult's sorrow. This can confuse children. They know there’s a serious illness or death in the family – but see no emotional response in the adults around them.
This chapter provides reassurance that it’s okay – important, even – for your children to see that you're grieving. It provides ideas for modelling your grief in healthy ways that support your children. And it addresses the importance of a support system for yourself.
